| This book presents and discusses new data ranging from Alps to Africa, obtained by the CROP PROJECT (transcrustal seismic exploration of the Mediterranean and Italy). New lithospheric imagings of relevant importance for understanding disputed topics are provided. Alps, Apennines, Calabrian Arc, Sicilian Apennine, Maghrebian Chain, Corso-Sardinian Block, paleo-basins (Ionian, Alpine Tethys), neo-basins (Balearic and Tyrrhenian) are innovatively reconstructed. * Provides new data from the Alps to Africa * Presents interpretation of the CROP seismic network data * Offers a stepwise increase in information with new data for further studies Book Title: CROP Project, Volume 1: Deep Seismic Exploration of the Central Mediterranean and Italy (Atlases in Geoscience). Publisher: Elsevier Science. Published: 2006-01-06. ASIN: 0444506934. ISBN: 0444506934. EAN: 9780444506931. Binding: Hardcover. Price: $480.00 | |
| This is the first book in English reviewing and updating the geology of the whole Apennines, one of the recent most uplifted mountains in the world. The Apennines are the place from which Steno (1669) first stated the principles of geology. The Apennines also represent amongst others, the finding/testing sites of processes and products like volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, olistostromes and mélanges (argille scagliose), salinity crisis, geothermal fluids, thrust-top basins, and turbidites (first represented in a famous Leonardo's painting). As such, the Apennines are a testing and learning ground readily accessible and rich of any type of field data. A growing literature is available most of which is not published in widely available journals. The objective of the book is to provide a synthesis of current data and ideas on the Apennines, for the most part simply written and suitable for an international audience. However, sufficient details and in-depth analyses of the various complex settings have been presented to make this material useful to professional scholars and to students of senior university courses. Book Title: Anatomy of an Orogen: The Apennines and Adjacent Mediterranean Basins. Publisher: Springer. Published: 2010-12-08. ASIN: 904814020X. ISBN: 904814020X. EAN: 9789048140206. By: Robert A. Mills. This volume considers the geological processes at and biological colonization of, deep ocean spreading centres from both a modern, for example Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the East Pacific and the South West Indian Ridge, and an ancient perspective, such as in the UK, Cyprus, Turkey, Greece and the Urals. The book is one of the first attempts to bring together researchers from disciplines as diverse as geophysics and biology studying modern active hydrothermal systems and the fossilized remains of long-extinct hydrothermal systems that are now locked in the geological record.By using new knowledge of how hydrothermal systems function we can aid the understanding and prediction of mineral deposits now found on land. Also available: Biogeochemical Controls on Palaeoceanographic Environmental Proxies (Geological Society Special Publication 303) ISBN - 9781862392571 The Geological Society of London Founded in 1807, the Geological Society of London is the oldest geological society in the world, and one of the largest publishers in the Earth sciences. The Society publishes a wide range of high-quality peer-reviewed titles for academics and professionals working in the geosciences, and enjoys an enviable international reputation for the quality of its work. The many areas in which we publish in include: -Petroleum geology Book Title: Modern Ocean Floor Processes and the Geological Record (Geological Society Special Publication). Author: Robert A. Mills. By: Richard John Huggett. Using a broad selection of classic and current sources, The Natural History of the Earth probes selected discussions within biology, climatology, geology, and geomorphology and explores a selection of debates about Earth and life history, considering their origins and their present state-of-play. After outlining the arguments, placing them in an historical context and indicating their significance, the book goes on to deal with specific debates. In the geosphere section, topics covered include geological processes, the bombardment hypothesis, frigid climates and cataclysmic floods, and in the section concerning the biosphere, the topics covered include evolutionary patterns, mass extinctions, patterns in life’s history and life–environment connections. Written in a clear and accessible style, this volume will interest Earth and life scientists, physical geographers and any informed person fascinated by long-term Earth history. This accessible volume is illustrated throughout with over fifty informative diagrams, photographs, tables and over 700 references. Book Title: The Natural History of Earth: Debating Long-Term Change in the Geosphere and Biosphere (Routledge Studies in Physical Geography and Environment). Author: Richard John Huggett. By: Icon Group International. Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Aging," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Aging in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Aging when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Aging, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain.Book Title: Aging: Webster's Timeline History, 1993. Author: Icon Group International. Publisher: ICON Group International, Inc.. Published: 2009-06-06. ASIN: 0546860052. ISBN: 0546860052. EAN: 9780546860054. Binding: Paperback. Price: $28.95 |

| Ebb and Flow, NASA's Gravity Recovery And Interior Laboratory, or GRAIL spacecraft, have officially begun collecting science data as they orbit the moon. Scientists will use the information gathered by the twin spacecraft to produce a high-resolution map of the lunar gravitational field. That should provide unprecedented detail about the moon's internal structure and composition, and lead to a better understanding of how Earth and other rocky planets in the solar system formed. Science activities are expected to continue through May 29. Also, Station Science on Fire, Astronaut Cady Coleman performing center stage at the Kennedy Center, NASA Administrator Charles Bolden joins The White House to encourage engineering students to "Stay With It", "GEMS" at Stennis Space Center, an honor for the late NACA test pilot Scott Crossfield and more! | |
