Galaxy Formation and Evolution

By: Houjun Mo, Frank van den Bosch, Simon White.

The rapidly expanding field of galaxy formation lies at the interface between astronomy, particle physics, and cosmology. Covering diverse topics from these disciplines, all of which are needed to understand how galaxies form and evolve, this book is ideal for researchers entering the field. Individual chapters explore the evolution of the Universe as a whole and its particle and radiation content; linear and nonlinear growth of cosmic structure; processes affecting the gaseous and dark matter components of galaxies and their stellar populations; the formation of spiral and elliptical galaxies; central supermassive black holes and the activity associated with them; galaxy interactions; and the intergalactic medium. Emphasizing both observational and theoretical aspects, this book provides a coherent introduction for astronomers, cosmologists, and astroparticle physicists to the broad range of science underlying the formation and evolution of galaxies.

Galaxies in Turmoil: The Active and Starburst Galaxies and the Black Holes That Drive Them (Astronomers' Universe)

By: Chris Kitchin.

Astronomers' Universe Series is a new series aimed at active amateur astronomers but is appropriate to a wider audience of astronomically-informed readers. The book provides an up-to-date account of active galaxies. Lists of such objects and their visual and imaged appearance in commercially available telescopes are an important component of this book. The book makes sense of the chaotic and apparently innumerable types of violently active galaxies. It provides the data and teaches the skills needed for users of small telescopes to observe and image some of these "galaxies in turmoil" for themselves.

Galaxies: Structure and Evolution

By: Roger John Tayler.

This book is a quantitative introduction to what is known or theorized about the structure and evolution of galactic systems. It begins with a general introduction to galaxies and a summary of our empirical observations of galaxies in the universe, including our own. There are then three chapters on galactic structure: the manner in which motions of stars determine galactic shape, the determination of galactic masses, and the structure of discs in spirals. Galactic evolution, especially changes in chemical composition over time, is then covered. The book concludes with a discussion of the origin of galaxies and their relation to more general questions in cosmology. The presentation is sufficiently mathematical so that quantitative results can be discussed in detail. Throughout, the author stresses what are currently accepted results and what theories may need revision in what continues to be a rapidly developing subject.

Monty python - The Universe song which also goes under the name of The Galaxy song
A little song about the universe and how insignifcant we are, and livers. from the film 'The meaning of life'.
Super Mario Galaxy - Battlerock Barrage
Battlerock Galaxy - Mission 1 Battlerock Barrage A little fact: The Battlerock Galaxy is one of the few galaxies to have its name unchanged between the Japanese and American versions. But it's fine with me if they changed the names, as many were puns in Japanese that can only be punned in English from the ground up. But I kind of wished they kept the names of the Heavenly Galaxy (called Gateway Galaxy in English) and Hell Prominence Galaxy (Melty Molten Galaxy). This is the Battlerock Galaxy, and your introduction to it. The Battlerock is a huge spaceship, making its way through space, and over the course of its many missions, Mario will find his way into it and confront its captain. Looks pretty hard, does it? The game goes up in difficulty here, though there's no big danger of death, as there are no bottomless pits or black holes. It IS pretty hard, however, to do all this without getting hit, what with all the cannonballs, invincible Amp enemies, and electified barriers all over the place. As you can see, I take my sweet time with this. That's how I usually play Mario Galaxy--or any other game, for that matter, where I get the option to do so. Requested by genius1133

Super Mario Galaxy 2 - Insanity gets a new name... Master Quest (2nd star, custom level!)
Hello to all NinBuzz viewers once again! MrBean35000vr here, and this time I'm playing Super Mario Galaxy 2! In this case, it's my custom level that I affectionately nicknamed "Master Quest". Not sure if this is the first ever complete custom SMG2 level or not... but certainly if it's not, there won't be many custom levels out there (I think I would've heard :P). But anyway. In this video, I have Chadderz with me once more and a better mic setup than what I had in my previous NinBuzz video (hopefully we're easier to hear this time around, please give your opinions in the comments). In this video, I play for the 2nd star in my custom level. You may wonder why I didn't submit the obtaining of the first star to NinBuzz as well; but if you watch to the end, you'll see I go past the first one on the way to the second, making it kinda redundant since it'd be the same basic thing again, just easier... so yeah. The second star is naturally harder than the first anyway, so it makes for a more impressive video to obtain it, too. And that's really all I have to say on the matter, methinks. If you want more information on this custom level... check my YouTube (link at bottom). Currently running the level is a little difficult but I do plan to make it easier for people to try it relatively soon. Designing your own level in this game is not easy: and let me emphasise, I do not have a proper editor and Chadderz doesn't want to release that small GUI editor he made for me (it was made in ...
Star Wars Galaxies: The last 10 minutes of FarStar
The last 10 minutes of Star Wars Galaxies in Europe-FarStar galaxy. Watch in HD for best audiovisual experience. UPDATE 26-Feb-2012: SWG Memory Book is no longer available from SOE. A friendly YouTuber (m7digger) has however uploaded it to Mediafire: www.mediafire.com Unfortunately i was not able to be at the keyboard during the final minutes (hence stationary camera). Official shutdown time for European galaxies was Dec 16, 2011 at 5am GMT, which was 7am in Finland. I simply had to go to work. But i wanted something, so i left my character afk and recording video. Recording took place in front of Mos Eisley Starport. It had more people than the Great Pit of Carkoon hangout created by the devs (at least when i took one last look at both locations within 30 minutes of shutdown). Lots of people so it's hard to tell player names in most cases. I think leaving player names visible was still the better option versus having no names at all. Guild chat is from Unity. On the technical side, volumetric shadows were disabled due to heavy population (framerate killer). I also disabled bloom in this case (some ridiculously bright thingies at the feet of players with it enabled). Framerate is poor, but as the camera doesn't move at all, it's not a complete disaster. If you are wondering about the odd hiss-like sound, it's caused by fireworks (the fuse burning). SWG was the first ever mmorpg for me. There can be only one first ever. Therefore i have some unique memories from this game ...
